If you want your guests to show up ready to party, stay up late, and dress to the nines, there’s probably no better day to have your wedding than New Years Eve. Lucy and Davis traveled the furthest to their (they live in Amsterdam) Tetherow wedding.
This wedding was especially special as I’ve known Lucy for 20ish years. I was her camp counselor and we’ve slightly stayed in touch over the years. When she reached out for me to photograph her wedding I seriously almost cried. When she needed vendor recommendations the obvious choice was Kate who was a counselor with me at the same camp! Lucy grew up in Portland and Davis grew up in Portland so this was truly a destination wedding.
Lucy & Davis opted for a later ceremony so their guests could go to midnight (and beyond). We did a first look, family photos, and even sunset photos before moving indoors for the Ketubah signing and ceremony. Generally I recommend couples try to do as many photos as they can before the ceremony so they don’t feel rushed. You don’t want to feel like your missing out on your own wedding because you have to take family photos. For a winter wedding, depending on ceremony time, a first look often allows us to get portraits in great light. In general I suggest allocating 30 minutes to couple portraits (usually split 20 for first look and 10 minutes for sunset), 20 minutes for family photos and 15 minutes for wedding party.
Indoor ceremony vendors are few and far between in Central Oregon and Tetherow has one of the best in Central Oregon. With tall ceilings and white walls it’s fairly neutral compared to a lot of the other indoor Central Oregon venues. If you’re up for an outdoor ceremony there are plenty of spots at Tetherow with mountain views.
