Aspen lakes Golf Course Wedding

As a photographer that loves the mountains – Aspen Lakes Golf Course in Sisters is such a beautiful wedding venue. The ceremony site perfectly frames the Three Sisters in the background with a foreground of wild flowers and a little creek. The indoor venue also allows for your guests to enjoy air conditioning and heat but still has easy access to the outdoors and the epic views!

Michaela and Chris both live in Chicago but wanted to plan a destination wedding for their guests. Michaela’s mom and stepdad live at Apsen Lakes Golf Course so it was the perfect spot for their July wedding. Their 100 guests all traveled from out of town staying in Sisters (except for her parents) and they truly got to enjoy their full weekend with their guests. The couple met working at Habitat for Humanity doing Americore so they had lots of Americore friends there to celebrate.

Their decor was all about color. Her bouquet and accessories were all brightly colorful while her dress was absolutely timeless. Michaela’s smile absolutely radiates and I think everyone can’t help but smile back (especially Chris!).

My advice for planning your Aspen Lakes Golf Course Wedding:

  • Split photos up throughout the day. Apsen Lakes can be sunny with golfers enjoying the course in the afternoon. Consider doing a first look in the more desert area (behind the venue) for some nice shade. By sunset the golfers had finished so we were able to explore a little bit more ending the the section behind the ceremony spot (there was a path along the creek) for some mountain views!
  • If you want to go somewhere different for a first look or sunset photos Indian Ford meadow is just a few minutes away and has a huge field with epic mountain views. This is a free park and it’s easy to walk about 3 minutes down the path for the best views. There are several areas nearby with large mountain views but it might be on private land.
  • Plan a full wedding weekend. Sisters is a unique town that requires all businesses to have an “old west” facade. You can lean into it by going to the Sisters Saloon or even going horseback riding. Sisters is also a gateway to the outdoors with many hikes (my favorite being Tam MacArthur Ridge) and lakes to explore. Suttle Lake is a great place to go swimming and even enjoy drinks/food at the lodge. I also highly recommend the Sisters Bakery!
  • Sisters had 3 weekends during the summer where the entire town goes mad and traffic can back up for miles. If you’re looking for a relaxing experience avoid Rodeo Weekend, the Quilt Show (though it may sounds silly this is a huge event), and the Folk Festival.
  • Consider having Macaroni and Cheese at your reception. Aspen Lakes does all the catering in house and the Macaroni and Cheese is seriously the food of dreams.
