Black Butte Ranch Wedding | Kate + Jonathan

Kate & Jonathan were planning on a late March spring wedding at the new Black Butte Lodge. They planned their wedding around spring colors with an outdoor ceremony overlooking the pond. The weather had other plans with a late spring pretty intense snow storm. As construction was delayed at Black Butte Ranch – they also ended up being the first wedding at the completed lodge.

I would describe Kate as having a Type A personality but she was so laid back at her wedding and truly rolled with the punches (or should I say snowballs?!). These two didn’t bat an eye at having their first look outside while fluffy snowflakes fell on them. With the unexpected snow their outdoor ceremony looked almost fake.

Where Kate and Jonathan were true badasses was when after the ceremony the sun peaked out and I knew it was our chance for some mountain views. Despite changing out of snow boots and into heels Kate walked through the snow to get some of the most magical images of the day. By the end of the ceremony her dress was heavy with melted snow – there were times where you could have found Kate by following the wet line on the dark slate floor. But not once did Kate complain. She truly embraced the day and the photos and wedding she had was one for the books!

The new lodge at Black Butte Ranch is a beautiful backdrop. The interior is a mixture of dark tones with light wood to create a neutral and modern feel. It’s a great option for those wanting less of the ranch vibes easily found in Bend.

Their guests raised many toasts to the couple before the party started on the dance floor!

I loved this wedding. It wasn’t what anyone expected and that frankly, almost made it better. From the couple, the flowers, the new lodge, to the unexpected weather it was such a joy to be a part of! An accidental winter Black Butte wedding might be my new favorite.
